Sakura-watching is a dynamic family affair in Japan

Posted by: aablogs | October 27, 2008 | 1 Comment |

Woah! It’s such a relief knowing that families gather and be with each other just to watch cherry blossoms fall daintily on a cool spring night. It’s just too cool and awesome to spend the night with friends and family members.

Sakura-watching or hanami is a very treasured tradition in the imperial palaces of Japan. Soon the sheer beauty can’t escape the captivated hearts of the people and the elite Samurais followed suit and adopted hanami. Finally, through the course of fate, the commoners, finally, was able to take part in the activities once reserved for the elite. Up until now, almost every Japanese carry this wide-reaching tradition and the family and friend circles join together and have a good time.

Imagine! The Japanese even had their weather bureau track the upward tract direction of the appearance of flowers in trees as the cherry blossom season unfolds. It means that as  winter recedes, spring comes from the south and extends toward the north and carried with the temperature change is the signal for the beloved cherries to blossom.

It is critical to know when these trees bloom as large parks generally become full because the tradition dictates that the people should watch the flowers. Even feasts are being held underneath the falling blossoms.

Interestingly, some regions in Japan have their business and school years start exactly as the arrival of the elegant pinkish florescence polluting the air with festive celebrations. So, this coincidence causes many to celebrate their significant “first days” under the loving arms of the trees.

Seemingly the saying, “hana yori dango”, or dumplings rather than flowers illustrates this rather sad truth. People don’t go to parks anymore to view sakura trees and instead they prioritize the food on flower-watching parties over the actual viewing. It’s like celebrating a birthday but forgetting the celebrant.

Well, what’s wrong about having fun under the sakura tree? After all it’s with people you love.

It’s just that traditions are being slowly altered to cater to inidividual needs. And along many of the routes from this tainting is the affair’s slowly and sad descent into oblivion guided by the hands who misunderstood the intentions of those from long ago.

nurse kikay o general kikay?

Posted by: aablogs | October 25, 2008 | 1 Comment |

o mga readers (as if meron talaga), Good morning sa inyong lahat!

Nurse kikay o general kikay?

Hindi ba mas astig yung general kikay kaysa sa nurse kikay?

Ang misconception kasi ng mg tao pag general kikay ay isang baklang general. But, NO! Hindi eh! Yung General Kikay, tumutukoy ito sa isang babaeng heneral na gumaganap ng mga roles ng lalaki. >>Dba ASTEG! Rare kasi yan dito. Kaya uber galing talaga kapag “General Kikay.”

Eh ang nurse kikay? hahaha Yuck! Kadiri! Ang pangit naman n’on. Isipin niyo yung nurse na babae mukhang bakla??? >>Hindi na kailangang i-explain pa. Nasusuka na ako. hahaha

edit: Inaalay ko ‘to sa aking real-life friend na si Kikay na nagtetake up rin ng Nursing pero bagay sa Army.

Ano ba ang secret move para tumangkad?

Posted by: aablogs | October 21, 2008 | 5 Comments |

“Tried and tested,” ika nga nila.

Babay!

Hahahaha I was really inspired while doing this!

At first it’s a slow start when being with people you don’t know. You never get along but you try.  Things have passed, but in a  short time a friendly bond grew. But suddenly, the time was up! It’s really painful to be leaving without a chance to say goodbye. It’s there you realize, no, but it was always that way from the start, that all you had were memories.

In doing the right thing, be committed and compassionate. Don’t do
something because you’ll be richer in anyway or because it’s
troublesome.

You get to smile sincerely when you get deeply involved with a person emotionally.

It seems rather rare for a friend to care. Just when all seems lost, you’ll notice that, no matter what the cost, he’ll unconsciously make it obvious.

It’s the mutual bond between friends that make bestfriends.

Even though a person seems unmoved and insensitive, with a lot of respect and caring that person is likely to return the favor.

There are two types of travel, one, being having no final destination but having the experiences gained during a travel to lead you to the destination; two, valuing every bit of the journey but not really on the destination. Either way, the experiences incurred is vital. After all, a new journey is started upon reaching a destination for it is just mere transition.

The word ‘ingat’ when uttered by a friend is overflowing with emotions for he hopes that someday the two of you will meet again.

You know, priceless memories will always be alive in the soul and mind.

Hindi na maiibabalik ang kahapon. Huwag mo nng ipagpilit pa. Magtiwala na lang tayo sa Diyos.

If you live by imagination only, open your eyes! Reality is full of varied and valuable experiences. But, choose wisely. Stumble, stand up, walk and never be idle. Many realities have been intertwined in this world. They are your friends. The crossroads are never meant to be detours and diversions and dangerous boundaries but are meant to be bridges, linkages and harmonious spillways. If you’ll get lost, just trace back and find the signpost at the intersection. Somehow, it is labeled within the confines of the heart and mind.

Recipe –> Carrot Salad with Salted Egg

Posted by: aablogs | April 4, 2008 | No Comment |

Okay I was craving for a healthy dish for lunch. The first word that crossed my mind was ‘vegetables.’ I ran to the ref to get some lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes for my Caesar’s salad. Surprise!!!–no lettuce.

Hey look at the bright side. There was a medium-sized carrot, one large white onion, one piece of leek (with 3 leaves), kalamansi and the never-disappearing garlic. I’ve cooked it in a nice way. Well, that list is the exact ingredients I have used.

After making the prototype I’ve come up with a better recipe.

RECIPE

serves 3-4

Edited ingredients:

One medium-sized carrot       –>       2 medium sized carrots, cubed

One large white onion              –>        1 large white onion or 2 medium red onions, chopped

Ingredients, as their original amounts:

2 tbsp kalamansi juice
1 whole leek, shopped
4 garlic pieces (not cloves but the divisions), sliced thinly
1 salted egg, mashed or chopped into small pieces
1 or 2 tbsp oil
1 tsp Magic Sarap
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste

Boil carrots until slightly soft (don’t overcook it or else you’ll be making mashed carrots). Strain and set aside. In another pan, heat oil in medium flame. Sauté garlic until light brownish color. Add the onions and sauté until it loses half of its crispiness. Add the carrots and the kalamansi juice. Stir the mixture and let it stand for about a minute. Add the leek and seasoning. Stir every now and then to spread the seasoning. Let it stand for one minute then remove flame. Add the egg and mix. Serve.

Hahahaha~yeah it’s done!

Notes:

You can lessen the amount of kalamansi to make it less sour. Anyhow, it really doesn’t affect the final outcome because the sourness is complemented by the saltiness of the egg.

White onions are less spicy than red onions. you can have onion rings, but it absorbs all the sourness of the kalamansi. Actually that was what happened at first. So when I edited the recipe, I changed it to chopped to make sure the flavor was spread. You can cook the onions a little bit more just so you have a dish that isn’t all-soft except for the crispy onions.

If you have meat, you can add it. But make sure to have really small pieces of meat so that it doesn’t take overpower the carrots. The salad is relatively stable, with a slight domination of carrots, so just place small amounts in small pieces. Fry it first in the beginning and season with a little salt. [you can always make steamed meat or adobo/bistek with carrots minus the egg]

The bottom line is that the recipe is for occasions when you have a limited set of vegetables. Well, I did. hahaha Carrots and onions anyone because that would be much easier?  Lastly, this recipe can always be edited to include your personal ideas. I don’t own the world, so I don’t know everything. I’m not a professional cook, so I take this as a learning experience.

I enjoyed doing this recipe!

yeah, yeah. what’s ragnarok? wha?!? u dun know?

Posted by: aablogs | March 24, 2008 | 1 Comment |

hahahaha What’s Ragnarok?

Hello to all! It’s 1:16 am in my clock. And, what am I doing this late at night?

I’m going to investigate Ragnarok Online. Investigate–huh? Well, I’ve been "investigating", though quite superficially, about Ragnarok Online, RO, since I was fascinated by the RPG genre. So, what is RO?

Let me start with a brief history. I like the sprites. I like the community. I like solitude. I like the gameplay. I like characters. I like the chance to be me. Yeah, yeah, these are the elements of an RPG game. RPG stands for Role-playing game. And RO is a MMORPG. [laughs] whatever!

So, just like any RPG, RO has the basic element of role-playing. You can be whatever you want. And depending on the game, you can be any fictional character in their arsenal of classes, basically, the roles.

Yet, you might be wondering what’s this craze all about? Definitely, it is for the money, real money. For whatever reason the creator/developer might concoct a new thirst quencher, there is always the involvement of money, money for the development and maintenance and somehow money for profit.

Finally let’s leave that aside and go on to the main topic. Since Ragnarok is such a hit game, aside from public servers maintained by people who are licensed by Gravity, there are private servers which sort of modify the content of the original software and sometimes make drastic and radical changes like ultra-high experience and drop rates. There are many private servers to date, Philippine Ragnarok Online (pRO) is a public one you know, and I’ve chanced upon AnthemRO.

Anyway, just as the "investigating" continues, I might as well bid you goodbye.

"What is Ragnarok?," still the question remains. Signing off at 1:38. Gud nyt to all!
